HISTORY OF THE BAYELSA STATE POLYTECHNIC ALEIBIRI LIBRARY
The Bayelsa State Polytechnic, Aleibiri, was established in 2014 by the Bayelsa State Government through the Bayelsa State Polytechnic Establishment Law of 2014. The law was passed by the BayelsaState House of Assembly and assented to by the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency (Hon) Henry Seriake Dickson on 30th April, 2014 (Bayelsa State Polytechnic, 2025). As a library is an integral part of a Polytechnic and any other institution of higher learning, the Bayelsa State Polytechnic Aleibiri Library also came into existence in 2014. The Polytechnic Library metamorphosed from the College Library which served Bayelsa State College of Arts and Science, Elebele, founded in 2012 (Bayelsa State College of Arts and Science, 2014).
The Polytechnic Library has an Electronic Library (E-Library), which is adjacent to the Polytechnic Main Library. The E-Library houses several newly-acquired HP computers. The E-Library has WiFi, with which E-Library users access electronic information resources such as electronic books, electronic journals, electronic newspapers, online research projects, academic databases and other online information items. The E-Library subscribes to a number of academic databases. The last subscription covered Research for Life database (HINARI, AGORA, OARE and GOALI) and other Open Access Databases.
The E-Library now has an Institutional Repository which serves as a reservoir of the intellectual products of students and academic staff of the Polytechnic. It contains electronic books, electronic journals and other information resources in the various courses provided by the Polytechnic. The Polytechnic’s Institutional Repository can be accessed through the website: www.bayelsastatepolylibrary.ng.
