The Impact Of Government Expenditure On Economic Growth In Bayelsa State
ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of government expenditure on economic growth in Bayelsa State, using Yenagoa local government area as a case study. Relevant literature on government expenditure and economic growth were reviewed. Similarly, secondary data was used as data collection instrument, with particular reference to the 2009 to 2017 expenditure book of Yenagoa local government, from which relevant data on expenditure was obtained, while the internet served as the major source of generating data on economic growth (i.e Gross Domestic Product). Findings revealed that government expenditure has a positive and significant impact on economic growth. Therefore, one of the recommendations given is that government should spend more on infrastructural development in order to enhance the growth of the economy of the state, in general and the local government, in particular.
